Cardinals Pick up Valuable NESCAC Win Over Trinity to Clinch Winning Season
Defeating Trinity for the second time in six days by a 3-0 count, the Cardinals captured a valuable NESCAC win Fri., Oct. 5 in Middletown. Lisa Drennan '09 (#7 in photo, courtesy of SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) had another big day with 20 kills, 16 digs, three blocks and two aces. Caroline Rober '08 (#12 in photo) came in to play during the thid game and added three blocks as well while Ashley Farrow '10 played big up front with eight blocks and six kills. Other major contributors included setter Ellie Healy '10 with 39 assists and 10 digs and outside hitter Becca Rodger '08 with 10 digs and six kills. The win gave Wesleyan a 13-3 overall record, 4-1 in the NESCAC, clinching the team's eighth winning season in the last nine years. The Cards dropped to 13-5 and 4-3 in the NESCAC after a trip to Amherst Fri.-Sat., Oct. 12-13 for contests with the home squad and Tufts. Drennan had 39 kills and 28 digs over the two matches while Healy had 72 assists and 21 digs and Ruby Hernandez '11 collected 33 digs but it wasn't enough as both Amherst and Tufts took 3-0 decisions. The Cardinals will entertain in-state opponent Eastern Connecticut in a match to be webcast Wed., Oct. 17.
