Alissa Santucci '12 Has Consistent Start to NESCAC Schedule in Close Setbacks to Tufts & Bowdoin
Playing their opening two NESCAC matches of 2009 at Tufts, facing the home team Fri., Sept. 18 and Bowdoin Sat., Sept. 19, Wesleyan came away with two more tight defeats. The Jumbos produced a 3-1 victory, winning 25-19, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-21. The Polar Bears ended a 19-match losing streak to the Cardinals with a 3-2 triumph (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 15-9).
Wesleyan got consistent play from Alissa Santucci '12 (#17, photo) as she amassed 26 kills with a credible .235 hitting efficiency to go along with 21 digs and three aces. She also had three assist. Casey Reed '12 aided the cause with 29 kills and 21 digs while Ellie Healy '10 averaged 8.44 assists per set. Ruby Hernandez '11 added 41 digs to her seasonal totals.
The Cardinals move out of conference for their home season opener Tues., Sept. 22 with a visit from Endicott, a team Wesleyan eked out a 3-2 victory over in the first-ever meeting between the schools last season.
