With Ali Fourney '09 (#11, photo courtesy of SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) collecting a game-high 19 points in just 27 minutes of work, Wesleyan rolled to its fourth win in a row with a 78-50 victory over homestanding Mitchell Sat., Dec. 1. It was the first vere varsity meeting between the two squads. Though the Pequots hit the game's first basket, the Cardinals went on to score 30 of the next 37 points for a sizeable 30-9 bulge 12 minutes into the contest and led by 17 at the half. 40-23. While the lead slipped to 13 early in the second half, Wesleyan widened the gap to as many as 29 points (63-34) at the midway point of the second half and coasted in from there. Wesleyan's starting five of Fourney, Stephanie Savas '08, Nikki Maletta '08, Lucy Sprung '08 and Meredith Lowe '09 combined for 22-for-39 shooting (56.4 percent) from the floor and 20-for-25 shooting (80 percent) from the line for a collective 67 points while none played more than 27 minutes. Fourney also hit three of her four treys in the game. Wesleyan saw its win streak snapped Tues., Dec. 4 while hosting Coast Guard as the visitors came away with a 70-56 triumph. Wesleyan led 16-11 after 12 minutes but a 14-0 Coast Guard run put the Bears in the driver's seat and the lead stayed in duble-digits almost the entire second half. Fourney again paced the Cardinals with 21 points while hitting three of her four three-point attempts once again. Sprung chipped in with 12 points. The squad is back on the home court Thurs., Dec. 6, entertaining Emmanuel.
