Returning the starting front court from the 17-9 squad of 2007-08, Wesleyan has high hopes of extending its streak of winning seasons to nine during 2008-09. Co-captains Lucy Sprung '08 (#34, main photo) and Meredith Lowe '09 (#20, right in photo) along with Ali Fourney '09 (#11, photo insert lower left) each logged an average of more than 31 minutes a contest and combined for 41 points and 22 rebounds a year ago. Fourney, who paced the NESCAC in scoring while earning NESCAC post-season honors for the third year in a row, is the second Wesleyan woman to surpass 1,000 career points as a junior (1,066) and needs just 351 points to take over career scoring leadership at the college. She collected 410 points in 2007-08 while averaging 16.4 PPG and received first-team all-NESCAC laurels. She was a second-teamer in 2006-07 and the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2005-06. Sprung, a second-team all-NESCAC choice last year, averaged 15.2 PPG and 9.0 RPG, both placing her among the top-10 in the conference a year ago. Lowe was a steady contributor as well, averaging 9.4 PPG and 6.8 RPG. Wesleyan has four other returning letterwinners in Shannah Lively '09, Erin Gold '11, McKinley Tennant '11 and Sara Haile '11. Wesleyan has an equal number of newcomers as letterwinners this season and an average height among the seven rookies of 5-10 1/2. The team will begin the season by hosting Rhode Island College Tues., Nov. 18 before heading to Swarthmore for a tournament Nov. 22-23.
