Patrick Tynan, who spent the 2008-09 season as assistant men's
lightweight crew coach at Yale University, has been named faculty head
coach of women's crew at Wesleyan for the 2009-10 campaign. Patrick
steps into the position occupied by Beth Emery from 1988 through 2008
and covered on an interim basis by Brian Dawe in 2008-09.
A 1999 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst where he was an integral member of the varsity lightweight crew,
Patrick began his coaching career as a men's assistant at his alma mater
for two seasons before heading to Colby College from 2001-06. There he
assisted with both the men's and women's programs, helping the women's
novice crew win three New England championships. As interim head women's
crew coach at Williams College in 2006-07, Patrick directed the Ephs to
a New England and NCAA Division III title at the varsity eight level.
Williams also captured a team title at the NCAAs in 2007.
Before joining the Yale staff in 2008, Patrick spent
the 2007-08 season with a second stint at his alma mater, this time
assisting with the women's squad.
A USRowing Level III certified coach, Patrick also has a wealth of
experience at summer rowing camps in Connecticut, Maine and Maryland
over the last decade.
Laura McDaniel joins the Wesleyan coaching staff as women's assistant crew
coach in 2009-10. A 2007 graduate of the University of Southern
California, Laura helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish at the 2007
NCAA Women's Rowing Championships. Her crew also captured the Jackie Ann
Stitt Hungness Trophy at the San Diego Crew Classic earlier that spring.
Laura has also trained with the Chicago Rowing Center, the New York Athletic
Club, and Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia with their pre-elite squad
competing in the Canadian Henley, Independence Day Regatta and the US Rowing
Club Nationals. Laura was a swimmer and runner in high school and didn't
begin rowing until she got to USC.
After graduating from USC, Laura moved to New
York City and began her coaching career at Sarah Lawrence College in
Bronxville, N.Y. She also continued to row competitively with the New York
Athletic Club located across the lagoon from Sarah Lawrence's Boathouse in
Pelham, N.Y. In the spring of 2008, Laura joined the coaching staff of
Mountain Lakes Crew Club in Mountain Lakes, N.J. and guided the men's and
women's programs to a successful finish at Northeast/Mid-Atlantic
Championships. Most recently, Laura has been with Unity Crew Rowing Club, a
women's outreach program based in northern New Jersey. The women's 4+ placed
fourth at the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Championships in Worcester, Mass. this
past spring.
In addition, Laura has worked as an assistant account
executive at The Berman Group, an integrative marketing firm during 2007-08
and later Leibowitz Communications, a graphic design agency, in 2008-09.
Both companies are located in New York City.
