Molly Adams '07 (#4, main photo) scored the first collegiate goal in Trinity College's new ice hockey rink Fri., Nov. 17 to get Wesleyan off and running to a 5-2 season-opening victory. Wesleyan moved out to a 2-0 lead in the first period as Hannah Jackson '09 added a marker. Trinity tied the game with a pair of goals in the opening minute of the second period, both coming with Wesleyan down a pair of skaters due to penalty. Otherwise, goalie Rachel Stemerman '09 (#1, photo insert upper left) was impenetrable as she posted 31 saves in the contest. A point shot from the left side through a screen by Julia Kazmers '08 at 3:09 of the frame put the Cardinals ahead for good. A persistent second-chance goal from Amanda Nickels '08 in the third period and and empty-net number by Conner Brannen '10 for her first career goal in the closing moments ended the day's scoring. In the rematch between the teams Sat., Nov. 18 as part of a weekend series, trinity prevailed, 5-1. Jackson had the lone Cardinal goal as the teams were tied 1-1 after one period but the Bantams got the better of it over the final 40 minutes to get revenge. The Cardinals are off for a week before hosting Amherst in a pair of NESCAC weekend contests Sat. and Sun., Nov. 25 and 26.
