The 2008-09 Cardinals will look to take strong strides forward with the help of veterans and newcomers alike. The team anticipates greater overall depth through every position as they take aim at climbing the NESCAC ranks.

Stalwart netminder Rachel Stemerman '09, a four-year starter who is coming off a 3.15 GAA and .918 save percentage effort in 2007-08, is joined in goal by Danie Leahy '12. In front of them, the "D" corps will rely on the experience of tri-captain Julia Cohen '09 (#3, photo insert lower right) and Eliza Worthley '09 as well as Erin Fitzsimmons '10 along with the new energy of four newcomers - Rebecca Snelling '12, Claire Feldman-Reich '12, Becca Mark '12 and Ann Wheeler '12.

Leading the offense will be tri-captain Hannah Jackson '09 (#8 main photo by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com), who led the team with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points last season and has 44 career points. Tri-captain Emily Avener '09 (#10, photo insert lower left by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) will add continued production along with Izzy Huston '10, Sena Ito '11, Leah Coe '11, Julia Heffelfinger '11, Alex Bean '11, Molly Friedemann '11, Mal Cruz '11, and Heather Lindgren '11. Adding to the front ranks will be rookies Julia Mulhern '12, Jill Reynolds '12, and MJ Cardin '12.

A year ago, Wesleyan posted a NESCAC win over Conn. College and a tie with Bowdoin while five of the team's league losses came by two goals or less. The Cardinals will be looking to bolster its results as the team demonstrated the ability to compete with some of the top squads in the country, indicated by a 1-0 win over top-10 ranked Utica last December. Wesleyan opens the 2008-09 season by hosting NESCAC rival Trinity Sat., Nov. 15.
