Cards Leave 5-Game Losing Streak, All vs. Nationally Ranked Teams. Behind with 18-7 Win at Wheaton

Putting an emphatic end to their five-game skid, all against teams currently ranked among the top 18 teams nationally, the Cardinals scored the first five goals at Wheaton Tues., April 22, and never looked back en route to an 18-7 win. Sophia Kim '08 (#12, main photo courtesy of SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) had the first and last goal during the run and was one of three Cardinals to post a hat trick in the contest. Also with three goals was Laurel Sticklor '09 (#9, photo insert lower right by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com), getting each during the first half along with Kim. Picking up the slack in the second half as Wesleyan extended its 10-3 margin at intermission to the final 11-goal differential was Claire Hunter '11 (#18, photo insert upper right), who led the team in points on the day with three goals and an assist, all coming during the final 15 minutes. Wesleyan's chance of qualifying for the NESCAC tournament lies in its final regular-season game Sat., April 26 vs. Bates. The game will be webcast and details for watching are on the athletics home page under "Webcasts." Wesleyan must win the game then wait and see how other games, especially the meeting between Bowdoin and Williams, pan out.
