Sarah Orkin '09, Sophia Kim '08 & Beck Dorey-Stein '08 Earn Regional Honors

Leading the Cardinals in scoring this season with 29 goals and four assists for 33 points, Sarah Orkin '09 (#21, main photo) earned a spot on the all-NESCAC second team for a second consecutive year while also picking up regional first-team accolades from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Last season, Orkin ranked third on the team in points with 28 on 26 goals and two assists. For her career, she has 86 points on 76 goals and 10 assists, making her the likely 10th Cardinal to eclipse the 100-point plateau once she takes to the field for her senior season in 2009. Orkin also led the Cards in draw controls with 29 and was third in ground balls (28), behind defender Lisa Zweigenhaft '09 (41) and goalie Rachel Stemerman '09 (33). Wesleyan had three other players surpass the 20-goal level in addition to Orkin in 2008 as Jess Chukwu '11 fired home 26 while team co-captain Sophia Kim '08 (#12, photo insert lower left), who earned second-team regional honors from the IWLCA, had 24 and Allie Lynch '11 tallied 22. Beck Dorey-Stein '08 (#11, photo insert upper right), a steady force on defense as a team co-captain, was the third Cardinal to gain regional IWLCA recognition, also as a second-teamer. Dorey-Stein led the squad in caused turnovers with 22 while tying for fourth in grounders with 24. The Cards closed out the year with a 7-9 overall record with each of the team's nine losses coming against a team ranked among the top-20 in the final regular-season IWLCA Division III poll. The squad went 3-6 in NESCAC play and qualified for the NESCAC tournament for a sixth consecutive season. (all photos by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com)
