Led by Frank Crippen's '17 First-Place Finish at 133 Pounds, Wrestling Takes 3rd of 10 at RIT Invite

Led by the first-place finish of Frank Crippen '17 (photo) at 133 pounds, Wesleyan had nine of its 22 entries come away with a top-six finish, giving the Cardinals third place among 10 teams at the annual RT Invitational Sat., Dec. 6. Crippen went 3-0 in a field of nine entrants to claim his top prize, posting a first-period fall, a 7-2 decision and a thrilling 6-5 tie-breaker-two triumph in the championship match. For the third consecutive invitational, Isaiah Bellamy '18 went 3-1 to reach the finals at 197 pounds as he claimed second place once again. He had to surrender the title due to an third-period injury. The rest of the Cardinal place-winners included fourth-place postings by Ryan Sblendorio '15 at 174 pounds and Simon Levin '16 at 184 pounds. Four Cardinals secured fifth place - Matt Pelton '17 at 141, Ed Pierce '17 at 149 pounds, Taran Carr '16 at 165 pounds, and Dominic Pirraglia '18 at 184 pounds. The final placing came from heavyweight John San Filippo '16, who grabbed sixth place.
