Cardinal Make Short Work of WPI by Capturing Eight of 10 Bouts for Comfortable 28-6 Victory


Taking on WPI for the 35th consecutive year in regular-season dual match competition since first meeting during the 1973-74 campaign, Wesleyan downed WPI on the road Thurs., Jan. 31, 28-6. It was just the 11th Cardinal victory in 39 all-time meetings but the eighth Wesleyan triumph over the last 10 battles. Heavyweight Dan Conroy '11 (photo) produced the most decisive Wesleyan win with a second-period pin, giving the Cardinals a 13-3 lead after four matches. Four matches later, Wesleyan held a commanding 25-3 lead as 149-pounder Dave Bachy '10 notched his seventh straight dual victory with a 4-2 decision. Now 6-8 on the season, the Cardinals have just two dual matches remaining on the sechedule, those coming Sun., Feb. 10 at Williams where the squad takes on its Little Three rival along with Oneonta St.
