
While each of the teams won five bouts during
the match in Hartford Thurs., Jan. 7, Wesleyan prevailed over Trinity,
25-19, thanks to three first-period pins.
Chris Alvanos '11 (photo insert lower left) produced the first at 133
pounds, which tied the match at 6-6, while Charles Hoeg '11 (photo
insert upper left) put the Cardinals ahead to stay with his six-point
effort at 157 pounds, making the score 15-12.
Greg Hurd '10 (main photo), ranked 10th nationally in Division III,
clinched the match for Wesleyan when he pinned his Bantam opponent in
just 1:01 at 174 pounds, putting the Cardinals ahead 25-12 with two
bouts remaining.
Other Wesleyan winners were Josh Berkovic '10 at 165 with a major
decision and Tom Oddo '12 at 149 pounds with a decision.
The team heads to Plymouth St. for a tournament Sat., Jan. 10 to close
out the week's activity.
