
Seeded sixth at the New England
Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals hosted by Roger Williams Sun., Jan.
18, the Cardinals went 2-2 to finish right on their seed with a
sixth-place posting among 15 teams.
Leading the way for the Cardinals were the team's two nationally ranked
competitors - Dan Bloom '10 (photo insert upper right) at 125 pounds and
Greg Hurd '10 (main photo) at 174 pounds. Both went 4-0 during
Wesleyan's four dual matches. Bloom had two pins and two decisions
while Hurd had a pin, two major decisions and a decision. Bloom
currently stands 21-1 overall this year and is ranked 10th nationally in
Division III. Hurd holds a 21-2 record and is ranked 10th in the
country as well.
Wesleyan opened the NEWA Duals by downing Trinity for the second time
this season, 34-11. Wesleyan then fell 21-13 to Springfield, which went
on to place fourth. Wesleyan then downed Bridgewater St., 31-12,
before losing a tight match to Southern Maine, 24-21.
Wesleyan will have an equally busy weekend coming up as the Cardinals
host WPI in a match Sat., Jan. 24 before taking on Duals Champion
Johnson & Wales, Coast Guard and Southern Maine in a four-way affair
Sun., Jan. 25. The WPI match and one of the matches on Sunday will be
