Marisa Yang '16 Connects on Penalty Kick in 88th Minute for Women's Soccer Win over ECSU Before Setback to Hamilton

Marisa Yang’s '16 (#1, photo) penalty-kick goal with less than three minutes to play broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Wesleyan over Eastern Connecticut Tues., Sept 23. The Cardinals got their first win of the season, and improved to 1-5-1 while Eastern Conn. dropped to 4-3-1 with the loss. Wesleyan now holds a 6-3-3 edge in the overall series. Eastern Conn. opened up play by controlling the ball for the better part of the first half. The Warriors put five shots on net in the first half and their pressure forced two early corners. But Wesleyan started the scoring with a free kick from Katy Hardt '15. Hardt put a free kick from midfield into the box where Tess Daggett-Edenholm '16 was waiting; Daggett-Endenholm controlled the pass with one touch and sent a high shot into the right corner to break the scoreless tie at 31:40.
