Nicole Gray '08 Puts Two in the Net to Pace Cards Past Mount Holyoke, 4-0
Wesleyan posted its highest goal output vs. a traditional opponent in seven years with its four-goal outburst at Mount Holyoke Wed., Sept. 12, led by Nicole Gray '08 (#10, photo) with a pair of tallies. The Cardinals, who enjoyed a 38-5 edge in shots, built a 3-0 lead at halftime on a 20-3 shot margin. Taylor Stevenson '10 got credit for the game-winner with her unassisted goal in the third minute. Kaitlin Ashley '11 scored her first career goal in the 30th minute, also unassisted, for a 2-0 bulge, before Gray's first goal in the 35th minute made it a three-goal cushion. Gray finished off the scoring in the 88th minute with an assist from junior Becky Malik. Though Wesleyan defeated Mitchell College, which was just starting its varsity program, by an 8-1 count in 2005, the last time the Cardinals netted at least four goals in a game vs. a traditional foe was Oct. 10, 2000 during a 7-0 victory over St. Joseph (CT). Since then, the most scored by a Wesleyan team over a span of 85 contests was three goals. Wesleyan keepers Gavi Elkind '09 and Andrea Giuliano '09 combined for three saves in preserving the shutout. Wesleyan takes its act to Trinity Sat., Sept. 15 for its second NESCAC game of the season.
