Cardinals Come up a Goal Short at Trinity and Smith, the Latter in Overtime
Trinity got on the board midway through the first half of the NESCAC meeting with Wesleyan in Hartford Sat., Sept., 15, and the goal held up as the game-winner in the 1-0 decision. One of Wesleyan's best chances to even the count came late in the contest as Dasha Battelle '11 (#16, photo) was the recipient of a great lead pass into the Trinity box but her 12-yard shot was stopped by the Trinity netminder to preserve the shutout. It was one of seven saves for the Bantam goalie as Wesleyan held a 14-12 advantage in total shots. In the Cards' next outing, that at Smith Wed., Sept. 19, Battelle netted her first career goal in the 29th minute to spot Wesleyan a 1-0 halftime edge. Smith came back to tie in the 71st minute, then win it in overtime at 97:19. The Cardinals get back to NESCAC play next by hosting Middlebury Sat., Sept. 22.
