NESCAC Championships at
Williams - 8th of 11 teams
Team scoring - Williams 1757,
Amherst
1600.5, Middlebury 1553.5, Conn. College 1044.5, Tufts 888.5, Colby
739.5, Bowdoin
666, Wesleyan 603, Hamilton 542, Bates 474.5, Trinity
321.
HIGHLIGHTS - Amanda Shapiro earned all-NESCAC honors in both the 50 and
100 breaststroke
events as she placed second in the 100 breast (1:06.27) and third in the
50
breast (:30.36). Her 100 breast time was a national "B" cut and likely
to
qualify her for a second straight trip to Nationals. In addition, she
led
off the 400 free relay with a :53.15 split, good enough for the national
"B"
cut. She was an
All-American in both the 100 and 200 breast last season. Kate Krems
took second in the 50 butterfly (:26.33) for All-NESCAC laurels and
fourth in
the 100 butterfly while setting a team record in that event during time
trials
(:57.51). Her time was only .09 seconds above the automatic qualifying
standard for the NCAAs, making her a prime candidate for her first
excursion to
Nationals. Also setting a team record by cutting an amazing seven
seconds
off her preliminary time in the 200 IM was Carly Bollinger with a
2:11.41. Shapiro and Krems linked with Caitlin Bethlahmy and Agnes
Koczo for a
3:59.60 clocking and a "B" cut in the 400 medley relay while finishing
fifth.
