After sweeping through seven spring matches to finish the 2005-06 campaign with an outstanding 11-4 mark, the squad has even higher hopes for the 2006-07 year. With only #6 singles player Suz Ragab '06, who also played third doubles, lost to graduation, the Cardinals return six talented sophomores around team captain and lone senior Tori Santoro '07 (far left in photo). Ania Preneta '09 (main photo) fashioned a 11-4 singles mark, mainly from #2, as the veteran with the best record from a year ago. Aslo returning are Rachael Ghorbani '09 (#1), Madalina Ursu '09 (#3), Alex Sirois '09 (#4) and Emily Fish '09 (#5), while Lizzie Collector '09, who played every match at third doubles, also is back. Likely to step right into the starting singles lineup are three outstanding first-years - Meredith Holmes '10, Anika Fischer '10 and Casey Simchik '10. This combination, according to head coach Ken Alrutz, will give the Cardinals its most formidable lineup in history. The team will strive to reach the NESCAC tournament in the spring as a top-tier squad after just missing in 2005-06. The team begins the new season Sun., Sept. 10 by hosting Skidmore.
