Ania Preneta '09 Picks up a First-Round Victory at ITA Tournament as Lone Cardinal Winner

One of three Cardinals to participate in this fall's ITA Division III tournament hosted by MIT Fri.-Sun., Sept. 21-23, Ania Preneta '09 (photo) picked up a straight set victory in the opening round of singles play before falling in the second round to Meghan McCooey of Tufts, who was seeded in the 9-16 group. Preneta was Wesleyan's only winner in the elite regional tournament which features 64 singles players from 20 colleges. Rachael Ghorbani '09 dropped both her matches, the second by a narrow 5-7, 6-7 count. She also teamed with Alex Sirois '09 in doubles, losing to the 4th seed, 8-5, before defaulting in the consolation match, trailing 6-3 at the time. The squad gets back to dual-match action Wed., Oct. 3 with a trip to Conn. College.
