After More Than a Two-Week Layoff, Cards Sweep Doubles vs. Babson But Come up a 5-4 Loser

Although Linda McDougal '11 (photo) posted a straight-set victory at #5 singles and joined Meredith Holmes '10 for an 8-5 win at #2 doubles, it wasn't enough as the Cardinals dropped their first match in more than two weeks, 5-4 at home to Babson Thurs., Oct. 9. The #1 doubles squad of Sarah Miller '12 and Madalina Ursu '09 recovered from a slow start for an 8-6 win but each fell in a three-set singles affair, Miller at #1 and Ursu at #2. Holmes also suffered a three-set setback playing at #3 singles. Also winning in doubles at #3 was the tandem of Casey Simchik '10 and Anna Alvarado '12. The Cardinals wrapped up their fall activity with a trip to Little Three rival Amherst Sun., Oct. 12. There the home squad prevailed, 9-0. The closest results were turned in by Miller at #1 singles, as she fell 4-6, 4-6, while the #3 doubles team of Simchik and Alvarado dropped a 6-8 decision. The team resumes action during the spring.
