
Also competing in singles for the Cardinals was Anika Fischer '10 as she went 1-1 with a win vs. a Trinity rival while falling to a top-16 seeded opponent from Williams, Kristin Alotta, 4-6, 2-6. Alotta went on to win the title over the number one seed from Tufts, 6-1, 6-1.
In double play, Genevieve Aniello '13 and Meredith Holmes '10 teamed up to go 1-2, falling to a Bates tandem, then knocking off a Simmons duo before being eliminated by an Amherst couple.
The Cardinals inaugurated the dual-match season Sat., Sept. 26 by hosting Assumption. Wesleyan prevailed, 9-0, as Miller was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at #1 singles and teamed with Ana Alvarado '12 for an 8-3 first-doubles win. Four other Cardinals were winners in both singles and doubles - Holmes, Aniello, Linda McDougal '11 and Casey Simchik '10.
The team was right back on the courts Sunday, Sept. 27, hosting R.I.C. Wesleyan posted a solid 8-1 victory Aniello, McDougal and Simchik registering the twin killings. Hannah Berkman '12 and Taylor Morales '13 also got rare starts and made the most of it with straight-set wins at #5 and #6, singles, respectively.
The team will send a contingent of three doubles teams to the Grass Court Championships in Newport, R.I. Sun., Oct. 4 as the next activity.
