With top middle distance runner Stephanie O'Brien '08 (photo) handling the anchor leg in a terrific split of :58.53, Wesleyan's 4x400m relay squad which also included Hannah Overton '11, Kiran Sheffrin '10 and Lynn Edmonds '11 shattered its own team mark set just two weeks ago with a time of 3:59.75 during the New England Open Meet at Boston U. Sat., March 1. This group cut more than 3.5 seconds off the team record despite placing 16th in the event. The Cardinals were fifth among Division III entries. While no team points were scored by Wesleyan at the meet, several other strong efforts were turned in as O'Brien placed 13th in the 800m in a time of 2:17.11 and Haleigh Smith '11 came through with a time of 18:04.10 to finish 10th in the 5k. During the final event of the year Fri.-Sat., March 7-8 at Harvard where the ECAC Division III meet took place, Wesleyan had just three entries. The top performance came from Hannah Hastings '08 in the 1000m event as she placed 12th of 27 in a time of 3:05.90. The team will now takes its game outdoors for the opening spring action coming up on Fri., March 21 when the U. of South Florida hosts the Bulls Invitational.
