Competing in the non-scoring Trinity Invitational Sat., March 28, Wesleyan came away with 11 top-eight finishes. Three of those were first-place efforts. In total, 15 colleges were represented at the invitational.
Winning the 5000m race was Liz Wheatley '09 (main photo) with a time of 18:32.56. Ravenna Neville '10 (photo insert lower left) claimed top prize in the 10k, timed in a solid 37:26.24, more than 1:30 ahead of three Amherst rivals. Most impressive was Lisa Sussman '09 (photo insert lower right) in the 800m race. She outpaced the largest field in the meet (44 entrants) as her 2:19.56 clocking won by a .68 second margin.
Wesleyan collected 27.5 points during the Coast Guard Invitational Sat., April 4 to finish in 10th place among 13 participating teams. In total, eight Cardinal entries scored points led by Kiran Sheffrin '10 and Julia Frieze '12.
Both Sheffrin and Frieze placed third in their respective event, the former in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.37) and the latter in the 400-meter dash (1:01.40). Both we part of the 4x100m relay that finished seventh. Also in that quartet was Kathryn Kulowski '11, who picked up points in the triple jump by finishing sixth.
Wesleyan's other placewinners included Jess Levin '11 and Helen Dekorne '12 in the 800m (4th and 8th, respectively) and Lilly Fesler '11 in the long jump and 400m (tied for 6th and 7th, respectively).
The next time the Cardinals compete, it will be in front of the home fans as Wesleyan hosts the annual Elmer Swanson Invitational Sat., April 11.
