With an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 37:07.52, Ravenna Neville '10 (photo) took first place in a field of 19 entrants to give Wesleyan 10 team points during the annual NESCAC Championships Sat., April 25. Conn. College served as host for the meet.
Neville accounted for more than one-third of Wesleyan's team point total of 29.5, good enough for seventh place among the 11 conference squads. The next highest individual finish by a Cardinal was turned in by Liz Wheatley '09 in the 5k as she placed fifth, matched by Kathryn Kulowski '11 in the long jump. Lisa Sussman '09 was sixth in the 800m while Julia Frieze '12 placed seventh in the 400m. Kulowski tied for that position in the high jump. Kulowski, Frieze and Sussman were part of Wesleyan's sixth-place 4x100m relay, joined by Kiran Sheffrin '10. Wesleyan was seventh in the 4x400m relay with Sussman, Sherffrin, Lilly Fesler '11 and Frieze on board.
The next action for the team came up Fri. and Sat., May 1-2 as select members represented Wesleyan at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield. No Cardinal scored points in the meet as Frieze came closest with a nine-place finish in the 400m, timed in :59.63.
After that the team competed in the New England Open meet at UMass Amherst Thurs.-Sat., May 7-9. There Neville repeated as 10k winner, this time in a time of 37:58.59. She accounted for the Cardinals' 10 points in the meet which put Wesleyan in a tie for 21st among 36 scoring teams.
The final regular-season activity for the squad comes up Thurs.-Sat., May 14-16 at Springfield in the ECAC Division III Championships.
