In the final event of the 2009 regular season, Wesleyan had two placetakers to give the Cardinals 10 team points, good for a tie for 23rd place among 56 scoring teams at the ECAC Division III meet at Springfield Thurs. & Fri., May 14-15.
Highlighting the meet for Wesleyan was Lisa Sussman '09 (main photo), as her time of 2:15.29 in the 800m race gave her fifth place and eclipsed the previous Wesleyan record of 2:15.73, set by Maureen McMurray in 1999. Ravenna Neville '10 (photo insert lower left) produced a third-place clocking of 18:06.53 in the 5k race.
Neville, who had two regional top finishes in the 10k this season, one of them in NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time, is the only female Cardinal on the list of possible NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships participants. The NCAA took 18 competitors for the 10k event but the final qualifier's time was 36:50.43, 17 seconds faster than Neville's top effort. Thus, the women's track and field season has concluded for 2009.
