Led by the second-place finish among 14 entries of the distance medley relay squad of Jessica Levin '11 (photo lower right), Julia Mark '13 (photo upper right), Sarah Hensiek '13 (photo lower left) and Ceili Brennan '13 (photo upper left), Wesleyan collected 15 team points at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Southern Maine Fri.-Sat., Feb.19-20. The 15 points allowed the Cardinals to secure 14th place among 26 teams that earned points during the meet. The DMR was clocked in 12:28.97, a little more than six seconds behind first-place Williams and 3.5 seconds ahead of third-place Middlebury.
Ravenna Neville '10 was the lone Cardinal entry to score points in an individual event as her 10:27:51 gave her fourth place in a field of 19 participants in the 3k.
Wesleyan grabbed eighth place in both the 4x200m relay (1:50.54) and the 4x400m relay (4:10.73). Lia Monti '13, Kiran Sheffrin '10 and Julia Frieze '12 represented Wesleyan on both relay squads. Isabella Cucchi '13 rounded out the quartet in the 2x200 while Beth Kenworthy '10 completed the Cardinals' entry in the 4x400.
Just two events remain before the end of the regular season as elite qualifiers for the Cardinals competed in the New England Open at B.U. the weekend of Fri.-Sat., Feb. 26-27 before the final meet, the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Smith March 5-6.
At the New England Open, the group of Levin, Hensiek, Mark and Brennan combined to place 14th in the 4x800m race with a time of 9:39.35. Top individuals were Mark and Neville in the 3k, placing 14th (10:22.27) and 15th (10:24.91), respectively.
At the ECACs, both Neville (6th, 5k, 17:56.59) and Frieze (3rd, 500m, 1:19.35) scored points for the Cardinals, helping the team finish 29th of 43 scoring teams.
Wesleyan's next track action comes outdoors at Westfield St. Sat., March 27 in the Jerry Gravel Classic.
