Five Cardinals Come Away from Annual Swanson Invitational with First-Place Finishes
Recording 19 top-five finishes in individual events during the annual Elmer Swanson Invitational in Middletown Sat., April 10, Wesleyan had five team members nab first-place honors, all of which came on the track.
In the 200m race, Kiran Sheffrin '10 (main portion of photo insert lower right) secured first place (:27.82) while Julia Frieze '12 (partially obscured in photo insert lower right) beat the pack to the tape in the 400m dash (1:01.37). Continuing the series of wins was Ceili Brennan '13 (photo insert upper right) in the 800m race (2:20.84) along with 1500m winner Jess Levin '11 (photo insert upper left, 5:03.62). Ravenna Neville '10 (main photo, lower left) completed the Cardinals' contingent of top honorees with her victory in the 3000m race (10:18.67).
The Swanson Invitational did not give rise to team scoring. Eleven colleges were represented as the 200m event featured 25 entrants while 24 runners took part in the 800m race as the two largest fields in the meet.
Just three teams will be involved in the Cardinals' next outing, but it will be extremely competitive as Williams hosts the annual Little Three meet Sat., April 17.
