Ravenna Neville '10 Makes up Ground to Capture Little Three 3 Crown, Places 2nd in NESCAC Meet

Making up a three-yard gap in the final 25 yards of the 5k Little Three Championship hosted by Amherst Sat., Oct. 24, Ravenna Neville '10 became the second Cardinal in the last four seasons to capture the coveted title, joining Ellen Davis '07, who went on to win a New England title and finish ninth for All-America honors at the NCAAs in 2006.

Neville and Amherst's Sophia Galleher were going at it throughout the race before Galleher took a bit of a lead coming into the final straight across Amherst's baseball field. But a solid burst by Neville allowed her to cross the finish line just ahead of Galleher for the title, both timed in 18:51, with Julia Mark '13 20 seconds behind in third place. Still, the pack running of Williams, ranked second in New England and fifth nationally, and that of Amherst, ranked four regionally and 13th in the country, allowed them to take first and second as a team with 37 and 42 points, respectively. Wesleyan, ranked fifth in New England and 25th in the nation, wasn't far behind with 50 team points. In total, 65 runners took part in the race.

At the annual NESCAC meet, this time hosted by Trinity, the close finish went to Galleher as she nipped Neville at the finish line with a 21:39 clocking for 6k while Neville was timed in 21:40. Mark came in fifth with a time of 22:15. Rosie Keogh '13 was next in 19th among the 121 participants. As a team, the Cardinals finished fourth of 11 behind Middlebury, Williams and Amherst.

On the men's side at Little Threes, Charles Lang '11 led the way for Wesleyan with his seventh-place finish over the five-mile course with a time of 26:22 while Justin Spring '10 raced home in 11th place with his 26:35 clocking. Newcomers Marc Whittington '13 and Skyler Cummins '13 finished 13th and 14th, respectively, of the 83 runners in the event. The team score was Williams 25, Amherst 35, Wesleyan 64. Williams came into the race 15th nationally while Amherst was 24th.

At NESCACs, the men were eighth of 11 led by Bryan Marsh '13 in 23rd-place. Lang was 27th and Katz finished 28th in the field of 121 entrants.

The next action for the Cardinals comes up Sat., Nov. 7 when Williams hosts the ECAC Division III meet. As usual, Wesleyan will run a JV squad in both races.
