Projects and Activities
As a model , we will organize our projects and activities around the methods
proposed by CreateChange.Org, which is
a group that provides resources to Colleges and Universities attempting to (as
the name suggests) change the present system of Scholarly Communications.
Speakers/consultants
We plan to bring in various players in the world of Scholarly Communications to
talk about on-going developments in the field, and to consult on our various
initiatives.
Open Archives/pre-print Server Pilot
If we can identify a relevant project and faculty sponsor, we could launch
an open archives or pre-print service.
Institutional Repository
Some think that a key component to a University's scholarly communications
program is to provide an institutional repository (e.g. dspace,
www.dspace.org ) to the community. Is this
true?
Reading Group
We'll send around key readings in this evolving field to keep one another
informed about how the field is changing.
Toolkit for supporting Faculty Copyright Retention
CreateChange.Org has created a broad
set of documents and questions that we can use in our efforts. Are these
appropriate for Wesleyan? Which of these do we want to pursue?
Conference Toolkit
Wesleyan regularly creates scholarly materials through conferences and meetings.
Can we provide services to these events that help to document and share the
scholarly materials that are created and discussed?
