Buttons and Bows

Based on a collection of short stories, each dealing with the clothing she wore, had to wear, wanted to wear, couldn't wear, Jill Cutler's memoir chronicles her life and times. The stories are revealing of both social and cultural mores. The story, Buttons and Bows, is a recollection of life as a girl dressed in pinafores. The story is both comic and dark, dealing with vulnerability, coercion, and coming of age.

Buttons and Bows, featuring Melissa Sylvester, premiered in November, 2000 at the HERE Arts Center in New York, as part of the 5th Great Small Works Toy Theater Festival.
