Polyadenylated RNA was selected by oligo (dT) chromatography from total RNA extracted from either cultured myogenic cells 26 hours after fertilization (late myotube fusion stage), whole embyros 19 hours after fertilization or whole pupae. Equal amounts of poly A+ RNA were loaded and run on agarose gels, transferred to nitrocellulose and then hybridized with each of the four muscle actin gene probes. The transcript size of the message is indicated on the left, and was in each case, as expected (Fryberg et al., Cell 33: 115 (1983)).
