Wesleyan Annual Fund - $44 million
The real value of the Wesleyan Annual Fund (WAF) becomes clear when
calculated in endowment dollars. We would need $120 million in new
endowment right away to generate $6 million in interest income-the
amount we raised in annual fund dollars in 1999-2000. On a personal
scale, imagine your current WAF gift of $100 representing $2,000 in
endowment, or a gift of $5,000 representing $100,000.
Wesleyan Annual Fund gifts, so crucial and immediate, always support
faculty, students, and facilities-the key elements in Wesleyan's
distinction. This lifeline of yearly support, WAF, is made up of gifts
of all sizes.
We would like to raise the bar for the Wesleyan Annual Fund in the years
ahead. Increased unrestricted dollars will support key needs in the
annual operating budget and will relieve some of the pressure on
endowment. We are aiming for a 50 percent increase in dollars to WAF by
the conclusion of the Wesleyan Campaign in 2004. In five years' time,
from 1994 to 1999, we were able to increase participation in WAF from 37
percent to 50 percent. Clearly, our dollar goal is achievable.
We ask all alumni, parents, and friends to make increased gifts to the
Wesleyan Annual Fund the building block of your investment in Wesleyan's
future.
