Memorial Chapel
Renovation of Memorial Chapel, completed in fall 2003,
was a central piece of Wesleyan’s plan to revitalize the center of campus.
The historic brownstone structure now offers the campus community seating
for more than 600 in a beautifully refinished interior and has become the
preferred location for many campus events. Take a look at the new Holtkamp
organ. You can’t see them all, but there are 3,000 lead-tin alloy pipes
ranging in size from 24 feet to palm-of-your-hand. A new plaque in the
Chapel honors Lucille Stritter who left a bequest to Wesleyan in memory of
her stepfather, Rev. Edward E. Matthews, class of 1889.
