The Schumann Professorship in Environmental Studies

Barry Chernoff, an authority on conservation biology and the former curator of zoology at the Field Museum in Chicago, is Wesleyan's first Robert Schumann Professor in Environmental Studies. The professorship is named for Robert Schumann '44, an ardent supporter of environmental causes. Chernoff approaches environmental activism as "a voice of informed reason."  His work takes him on research trips to remote areas of South American with undergraduate collaborators.
