As of July 1, 2011, the Credential Service at Wesleyan University will accept only those students and alumni/ae who have identified themselves as applicants to health professions graduate programs (medical, dental or veterinarian). However, the Credential Service will continue to assist all students and alumni/ae who registered for the Credential Service on or before June 30, 2011. This assistance will continue to include the maintenance of confidential files, i.e., the collection of letters of recommendation and the disbursal of these letters upon the request of the registrant.
Wesleyan University has developed a relationship with Interfolio, Inc., an on-line service for credential storage and distribution. This is a web-based, confidential, credential file management service. Students and alumni/ae are directed to go to www.interfolio.com to learn more about the services Interfolio provides.
STUDENTS AND ALUMI/AE: When soliciting letters for receipt by Wesleyan University’s Credential Service, by Interfolio or LSAC, it is extremely important that you provide your writers with the applicable form whether it be a signed Wesleyan University Credential Service Reference/Waiver form, Interfolio’s Document Request or the LSAC Letter of Recommendation form. By providing the appropriate form, your letter will be submitted to the applicable service.
LETTER WRITERS: When you are requested to write a letter of recommendation, it is important for the student/alumna/us to provide you with either a signed Wesleyan University Credential Service Reference/Waiver form, Interfolio’s Document Request form or, for law applicants, the LSAC Letter of Recommendation form. These forms will identify for you to what service your letter should be submitted. If you are not provided with a form and are unsure of what service should receive your letter or if you need assistance in providing letters to Interfolio, please contact Alice Scholar at 860-685-3367 or at firstname.lastname@example.org to assist you.
LAW SCHOOL APPLICANTS: It is suggested that law school applicants register with the Law School Admission Council's Credential Assembly Service (CAS) for the distribution of your letters of recommendation to law school. The CAS bundles your law school application for participating schools, including your letters. It is important that you provide your writers with an LSAC Letter of Recommendation form to be included and sent with their letter. Go to www.LSAC.org for more information. Please feel free to contact Alice Scholar Tuesday-Thursday at 860-685-3367 or email@example.com with any questions or concerns.
A Wesleyan student or alumna/us who subscribes to the Credential Service must request MAILINGS IN WRITING, VIA FAX OR MAIL; TELEPHONE AND E-MAIL REQUESTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
BY FEDERAL LAW (The Buckley Amendment), WE ARE REQUIRED TO RECEIVE YOUR REQUEST TO HAVE REFERENCES SENT IN WRITING; NO TELEPHONE CALLS OR E-MAILS. FAXED REQUESTS WITH YOUR SIGNATURE ARE ACCEPTED.
- Upon receipt of your written request, the Credential Service will send your letters within five (5) business days.
- Letters of reference will be mailed to schools (including other Credential Services) or employers. A signed Credential Request form or signed letter must be submitted granting your permission. (See “Forwarding Letters….”)
A letter, when marked "Confidential," may not be read by the student or alumna/us. You may ask the Coordinator whether the letter specifies graduate school or employment, but may not ask about any other specifics of the letter. Any recommendation not accompanied by a signed waiver form will be considered and marked “Confidential.”
