Gilbert Clee Scholarship
Deadline: Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 11:59pm.
The Gilbert Clee Scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the junior class. Friends and associates of Gilbert Harrison Clee, Wesleyan class of 1935 and the late President of the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan University, established the Scholarship in his memory.
To be eligible, an individual must have demonstrated high standards of leadership, a deep commitment to Wesleyan University. A specific objective will be to select an individual who exemplifies the qualities that characterized Gilbert Harrison Clee as a humane person and as a leader.
Selection will be made without reference to financial need. The Clee Scholar will receive an initial $1000 prize and be eligible for an annual scholarship grant based on financial need. The award also includes career guidance by a representative of McKinsey and Company, an international management consulting firm. McKinsey's representative will work with the Clee Scholar during the latter's junior year to develop a summer program based on a self-supporting job, usually outside of the United States. Travel costs will be covered, if necessary, from the Scholarship Fund. In the event that the remuneration from the job does not provide complete coverage of the living expenses, a supplementary stipend will be provided.
The application deadline will be on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Applicants will need to submit, via MyCC by 11:59 pm:
- An essay (2-3 pages) describing your interest in the objectives of the Clee Scholarship. The essay should address your interest in the broad implications of multinational business enterprises, discuss your reflections on the need for a creative balance between the public and private sectors, and discuss your intent to pursue a career in business. As the past winners' proposals demonstrate, it is fine to include an example of a creative balance between the public and private sectors that you have read about or observed from your own experience.
- A resume.
- An unofficial copy of your transcript.
- Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member - may be submitted later directly to the Career Center.
Please feel free to contact the Career Center at (860) 685-2180 to make an appointment with Persephone Hall if you have any questions about the Clee Scholarship.
