Dear Ms. Jones:

I am extremely interested in your recently posted Legal Assistant position.  As a double-major in government and medieval studies, I have the skills and work ethic required by a large law firm serving corporate clients.  If you seek a detail-oriented, flexible employee acquainted with deadlines and a professional environment, please consider me for an in-person interview.

As you can see from my resume, I have worked in two fast-paced offices, performing a variety of administrative tasks: filing, copying, proofreading, and fact-checking.  For the past two summers, I was administrative support at a small law firm for three litigators.  I compiled and maintained case binders, among other things, and often accompanied the managing partner to court.  When cases were going to trial, my supervisors knew I could be relied on when the work spilled over to weekends.

I have also been a student worker in the University Relations Office for the past four years. My main responsibilities involved collaborating with the staff to plan and organize campus events. I was often required to schedule room locations, catering, and physical plant support for multiple events simultaneously -- a set of responsibilities involving numerous details in need of constant attention.  In addtion, I expanded my computer experience using their alumni database program, Millennium, and am proficient with both standard and in-house research programs.

I am a strong believer in the rule of law, and joining Finnegan & Howell would be a great beginning to my legal career after graduation from Wesleyan this May, 2014.

Attached are my resume and unofficial transcript, as requested in the job posting. I look forward to speaking with you in person to further discuss my relevant skills and experiences. I can be reached at (860) 555-1212 or by e-mail at student@wesleyan.edu. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
