Overview of For-Credit Internships

Wesleyan has three options for granting credit for an internship experience: Education in the Field, Independent Study, and the CSPL 493 option. Please note that some academic departments do not offer credit for internships.

Education in the Field

Students must receive faculty department sponsorship prior to starting the experience. If you are interested in pursuing Education in the Field please see your class dean or faculty advisor to review the requirements and begin the process. Please note that this is a 1cr course option and has an associated tuition cost for enrollment.

Independent Study

Students work one-on-one with a faculty member on a research project. If you are interested in pursuing an independent study for academic credit please see your class dean or faculty advisor to review the requirements and begin the process. Please note that this is a 1cr course option and has an associated tuition cost for enrollment.

Internship Course CSPL 493

Students are able to enroll in CSPL 493 for .25 credit. For this course, students identify an internship and seek approval for credit. Students are required to complete paperwork and reflect on their internship experience. Please note that there are exceptions to students on leave. For those enrolled as a full-time student, there is no fee to enroll in this course. For more information, see links to the left or if would like to discuss your options, please click here to schedule an appointment with Kate Smith, Associate Director of Fellowships, Internships and Exchange.
