Wes in the World Study Abroad Photo Contest

We are excited to announce our annual Wes in the World Photo Contest that is aimed to encourage students to reflect and display their global experiences. We invite anyone who has studied abroad or has a home country outside of the United Sates, to submit images that are unique, authentic, and creative. The Center for Global Studies wants to recognize and celebrate the spirit of global citizenship.


This year we have 5 categories for photo submission, as displayed below:

  • People: Single pictures portraying individual or groups of people.
  • Nature and Architecture: Single pictures of flora, fauna, structures, or landscapes.
  • Daily Life: Single pictures documenting either the ordinary or extraordinary elements in everyday life not normally considered news.
  • Contemporary Issues: Single pictures documenting cultural, economic, environmental, political, or social issues.
  • Sports: Single pictures that capture individual or team sports.

 Submission Guidelines:

  • Describe all photos on the contest entry form.
  • You may submit no more than 1 photograph per category for a contest total of 5 submissions
  • Photos must be clear with the highest resolution possible.
  • In order to be displayed in our online gallery without being stretched or distorted, photographs must be submitted in .jpeg format, edited for web, at least 2,000 pixels wide and no larger than 10 MB. 


The photo contest is open to all Wesleyan University students. The photo contest does not include vacation travels.

Contest Rules

  • Photos must be your original work.
  • Photos must be taken during the academic year 2016-17.
  • Photos must be free of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or any inappropriate content.

Important Advisory

I hereby grant Wesleyan University’s Center for Global Studies permission to use my photographs and/or video in any and all of its publications, including web space, and in any and all other media, whether now known or hereafter existing, controlled by Wesleyan University’s Fries Center for Global Studies, in perpetuity, and for other use by the University.

I understand that by submitting photos to the Wes in the World Photo Contest, I am agreeing to grant the Fries Center for Global Studies license for use of the photographs in displays related to the contest and in the CGS printed and electronic publications. Photos may be modified, retouched, and used for promotional purposes, such as on the Fries Center for Global Studies website, Facebook, Flickr, and in brochures, fliers, annual reports, or posters. I will make no monetary or other claim against Wesleyan University for the use of the photographs and/or video.
