Typical Events Educational- Events, which range all the way from artistic presentations to lectures, are held very often throughout the year. Guest lectures and presenters of the past have been Author Geneive Abdo (Mecca and Main Street, 2006; Answering Only To God, 2004), Omer Bajwa of Cornell University (Exposing Bias: Islamophobia in the Media), Writer and Documentary Producer Alex Kronemer (Muhammed: Legacy of a Prophet, Prince Among Slaves). world renown Master Calligrapher Haji Noor Deen, and Co-Producters Musa Syeed and Yoni Brook (A Son's Sacrifice). Other sponsored activities include the annual Ramadan Banquet. In '06-'07, the first Islam In Conversation Week was held and it was a fantastic success- beginning a tradition which will be continued in the future. Visits to local Islam/Muslim related events are also very common. Social Activism- Aside from community service activities of various types, many presentations are also sponsored by the community. One of the most notable has been Former Muslim Chaplain at Guantanamo Bay- Chaplain James Yee. Interfaith- The Muslim community is also heavily engaged in Interfaith activities. Keeping in mind a firm commitment to respect others and come together around shared values, the community joins with others in many activities. Shabbat-Iftars during Ramadan, the annual Interfaith Banquet during WesFest, the biennial joint Muslim/Jewish trip to Turkey and Israel, as well as regular joint discussions are just a few examples.
