What are the application
requirements?
- Students wishing to apply
for the Ph.D. program in Chemistry must hold at least a Bachelor's
degree from a recognized institution with a major in chemistry or in a
closely related discipline.
- Essay
- 3 letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts from all
institutes of higher education attended
- Official copies of GRE and TOEFL
scores
What should the essay include/ be
about?
- The essay should demonstrate why you
want to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry. What sorts of chemistry do you find
interesting? Why Wesleyan?
What is the minimum TOEFL score for
graduate admission? Can anything be substituted for the TOEFL?
- There is no minimum
- The TOEFL exam is preferable but any
objective evidence of English proficiency may be acceptable.
Are there GPA requirements?
- There are not GPA requirements
What are the minimum GRE general scores
for admission? Is the advance chemistry GRE score required for admission?
- We do not have a “minimum” GRE
requirement. Admission is offered on the basis of a number of criteria,
the GRE scores being one of them
- The GRE exam in advanced chemistry is
not required but always welcome.
Do you offer admission to students for
the spring semester?
- Occasionally. Apply and we will let
you know if a vacancy exists at that time.
What are the application deadlines for
Fall and Spring admission?
- Rolling. Submit as early as possible
for the best chance of admissions

- Please note that most
applications come in between December and February. The admissions
committee will begin looking at candidates around January 15th.
Are teaching assistantships
offered?
- Yes. All students are supported,
either as teaching or research assistants.
What is the application fee?
- There is no application fee
Do you contact my recommenders or do I?
- You do, we do not follow up with the faculty you
put on your application it is your responsibility to make sure everything is
received in the department.
Where is the form to send to my recommenders?
- There is no standardized form, they can send a
letter or e-mail to the chemistry office graduate student coordinator. They
can send it via e-mail or snail mail. **if they choose to send it via e-mail
it cannot come from a "yahoo" or "gmail" type address, it MUST come from a
work or school address.
