College Rankings

Every year, media outlets release their annual college rankings lists, each meant to measure “the best” in higher education. The proliferation of such lists, and the confusion they can create, has prompted us to compile a selection of Wesleyan’s current rankings, along with links to the methodology used for each, in order to provide you with a broad picture of how others view Wesleyan, according to various criteria.

Wesleyan among Liberal Arts Colleges and Universities 

Forbes ranks Wesleyan #10 on its list of top U.S. liberal arts colleges for 2017.

Kiplinger ranks Wesleyan #10 among liberal arts colleges in its annual list of the best college values in the U.S. for 2017. 

U.S. News & World Report ranks Wesleyan #21 on its list of top liberal arts colleges for 2018.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Wesleyan #24 in best value among national liberal arts colleges for 2018.

Washington Monthly ranks Wesleyan #11 among liberal arts colleges for 2016.

The New York Times ranks Wesleyan #23 on its list of Top Colleges Doing the Most for the American Dream for 2017.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Wesleyan #7 in economic diversity among the top 25 national liberal arts colleges for 2018.

Making an Impact

The Princeton Review ranks Wesleyan #1 on its list of impact schools for 2017.


Diversity

USA TODAY/College Factual ranks Wesleyan #23 in overall diversity among all U.S. colleges and universities for 2017.

Film

The Hollywood Reporter ranks Wesleyan #9 on its list of the top 25 U.S. film schools for 2016. 

USA TODAY/College Factual ranks Wesleyan #13 for top schools for majors in film, video and photographic art among all U.S. colleges and universities for 2017.


Writing

College magazine notes, “Wesleyan University bursts at the seams with creative writing opportunities,” and ranks Wesleyan #5 on its 2016 list of the best U.S. universities for aspiring writers.


Other Specific Majors

Among all U.S. colleges and universities, USA TODAY/College Factual ranks Wesleyan #5 for psychology; #14 for religious studies; #17 for area, ethnic, cultural, gender and group studies; #17 for philosophy and religious studies; #19 for English language and literature; and #20 for biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology.
