Introduction to African American Literature
AFAM 202 FA
This course offers an introduction to the cultural production of African Americans from the mid-18th century to the present, with an emphasis on poetry and fiction. Beginning with slave narratives and early poetry, we
consider issues of genre, literary traditions, and historical context, while gaining experience in reading and analyzing literary texts.

Weekly discussion questions and response papers, short essays, and mid-term and final examinations.
