Integration of Clinical Experience and Life Science Learning
BIOL 223 SP
A classroom discussion of biological, chemical and psychological aspects of mental illness as well as weekly volunteering at Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH). The class will be subdivided into four working groups of
students each. A mix of biology and other science majors is desired for each working group.
Current scientific and medical literature TBA.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Short weekly assignments for classroom discussion. Evaluation of clinical experience by CVH supervisor and instructor. One group paper on all aspects of a mental illness with subsections written by identified
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Open to Biology and other science majors by permission. The student must complete training course (4 hours) for CVH volunteers and commit one or more blocks of time (3 hours) that will be available for volunteering.
These requirements must be met during
the preceding semester.
