This course examines the economics of the public sector. It analyzes the role of government in the economy, from fighting inflation and unemployment to the provision of services such as defense, education and health
To fulfill its role the government uses taxes, transfer payments and expenditures. The budget is its blueprint. The questions we address are: Does the role of government differ under democracy, autocracy? Is the size of
shaped by political institutions? And what role does the citizen-voter play in the outcome?

Students who complete ECON 222 cannot receive credit towards the ECON or MECO major for ECON 322, or vice versa depending on your needs for major credit.
