Jewish and Israel Studies
This is a course on the history and historiography of the Jews in Eastern Europe from the initial settlement of the Jews there until the eve of modernity. We will examine social, economic, political and cultural aspects of Jewish experience in Eastern Europe, and Poland in particular. We will read both primary and secondary sources, and discuss how Jewish history in Eastern Europe was studied by historians.
