This course will focus on reading the poetry of the Roman elegists Propertius and Ovid, and will work towards an understanding of the genre of elegy at Rome, these two poets' relation to it, and the historical and
context of Augustan Rome that conditioned its production and reception.
Propertius, ELEGIES I (ed. W.A. Camps [Cambridge, 1961]).
Ovid, AMORES, ARS AMATORIA, REMEDIA AMORIS (ed. E.J. Kenney [Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1961]).
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Midterm and final examinations, tanslation/commentary project, and a 7-10 page paper.

Regular attendance, preparation for class, and active participation are required and will be reflected in your final grade.
