Each year Wesleyan awards a Baldwin Fellowship prize to
a senior who will be attending law school. Seniors who have been accepted to
one or more law schools and intend to matriculate Fall 2008, and those
deferring admission for one year are eligible to apply. The award is
typically in the amount of $4,000 - $5,000. Grants are potentially taxable.
For specific guidelines, students should consult with their parents'
accountant or tax consultant.
The prize reads as follows:
Established in 1952 by family and friends of
Horace Reed Baldwin of the class of 1947 and awarded annually for study at
law school to the member of the senior class who, in the opinion of the
committee, shows the most promise of becoming an outstanding lawyer and
public spirited citizen.
If you would like to be considered for the prize, please submit an
original and three copies of the following by April 4 at 5:00pm to
Jim Kubat, Chair of the Baldwin Selection Committee, Career Resource Center.
Only complete applications will be considered.
- A 2-3 page statement explaining why you
should receive the Baldwin Fellowship. Address the issue of your being a
"public spirited citizen" by writing about your previous commitment to
public service and future goals in this area. In addition, the committee
looks for a candidate with breadth in their academic record and
excellent academic performance;
- A resume;
- LSAT score and unofficial transcript;
- A list of the law school(s) to which you
have been accepted. Please indicate which school you hope to attend;
and
- Your student ID #.
There are no personal interviews for this fellowship. CRC staff members
(except for Jim Kubat) are available to critique your essay.Questions?
