Service Careers Fellowship
Program
Deadline: Tuesday, March 6, 2007 by 11:59 PM (online via MyCRC) The Service Careers Fellowship (SCF) has been established to encourage Wesleyan students to commit their careers to the betterment of society. We believe that careers in public service are not limited to one sector or industry, but are represented throughout the workplace by a common set of values – commitment to the public good, social responsibility, and civic engagement. We also recognize that developing and pursuing public service careers often requires financial sacrifice. Graduating seniors sometimes face the employment dilemma of choosing between following their convictions, or taking a job that offers a higher salary with which to pay back college tuition loans. To enable Wesleyan graduates to accept job and growth opportunities based on their values, rather than ability to afford loan repayment, the Service Careers Fellowship will award up to $5500.00 in a scholarship grant to 20 members of the junior class to reduce their overall student loan indebtedness. As Fellowship recipients, SCF Fellows will be expected to engage in some form of public service during the summer after junior year. As seniors, Fellows will be expected to engage in activities – on or off campus – that support their development to enter public service. They will also be expected to attend dinners with alumni and guest speakers for career development, attend regular meetings with the SCF Coordinators, and develop their own “Senior Year Career Action Plan”. After graduation, Fellows will report back to the Coordinators on their career developments, make themselves available to advise future recipients, and will be part of a growing network of SCF alumni committed to public service.
