Program Summary
Wesleyan is one of nine selective liberal arts colleges participating in
a recruiting consortium to be held in mid-town Manhattan on Friday, March
23, 2007.
The participating organizations represent a variety of fields including
communications, finance, sales & marketing, insurance, consulting, research,
public accounting, health, publishing, retailing, and social/human services.
Students are selected for interviews based on resumes and cover letters, so
the quality of your written materials is very important.
To apply, go to
eccdb.erecruiting.com and select "Create Account" at the bottom of the
"Students" section on the left-hand side of the page. Note: if you
registered to apply for ECCD-Boston, you can use the same username and
password to access the ECCD-New York information. If this is your first
time registering, you will be asked to complete a few required fields before
proceeding in the system. To view participating employers and job
descriptions, and to apply, please select "Career Center Calendar" from the
gray navigation bar and navigate to the application deadline date of
Wednesday, February 7, 2007.
Timeline
- Students can review job descriptions and submit resumes beginning in
mid-December 2005
- Deadline for students to submit applications online: Wednesday, February
7, 2007 by 11:59 p.m.
- Interview Notification and Sign-Up:
- Students with 4 or more interviews: February 21-24, 2006
- All other students: February 28-March 6, 2006
- ECCD-New York event: March 23, 2007
Registration
- Go to
http://eccdb.erecruiting.com. Students who applied to ECCD Boston and
used the system this past Fall should use the same login. New students
should follow the instructions on the left side bar and click "Create an
Account." You must enter your COLLEGE NAME in the ACADEMIC section of your
Profile.
- You may apply to 18 opportunities! Cover letters should be tailored to
each opportunity. Don't rely on one generic cover letter if you are
applying to various fields of interest. Cover letters are just as
important in this program as your resumes. Employers will choose their
interviewees based on the strength of the cover letters and resumes.
- Apply on a weekday prior to the February 10th deadline between 8:30 a.m.
and 4:30 p.m. so that the CRC counselors can help you if there's a last-minute problem.
Things to Do Before the Deadline
- Begin working on your resume and cover letter now. CRC Counselors and Peer
Career
Advisors (PCAs) are
available to assist students in all stages of resume preparation.
Additional resources for resume preparation are available in the Career
Center and online on our
Resumes and Cover Letters page.
- Attend a resume workshop (scheduled throughout the semester).
- Practice your interview skills. Attend an interview workshop and
schedule a mock interview.
Hints on Preparing for Off-Campus Recruiting Events
Students who have never been to a group recruiting event often have a
hard time visualizing what it will be like. With as many as 20 interview
tables in one large room, the process can be somewhat intimidating and
confusing. In organizing these events, we make every effort to keep the
distractions to a minimum, but, the fact is, you will be conducting your
interview at a table only a few feet away from another interviewee.
You'll need to keep yourself and perhaps even your interviewer from being
distracted. The most important factor in managing the screening interview
will be the extent of your preparation. You'll need to know your own resume
extremely well, particularly in being able to provide specific examples of
the skills that you've acquired through your academic program, your work
experience and your curricular activities. Ideally, those examples will be
quantifiable measures that can demonstrate your contribution to the
organizations of which you've been a part.
Preparation also includes knowing the specific skill requirements of the
position for which you will be interviewing. The most in-depth way to gain
this knowledge is to read and think about the materials provided by the
organization and to talk with folks who are actually doing the job. Often
those informational interviews can be arranged through personal contacts
that you already possess, or through WesCAN - the Wesleyan Career Advisor
Network.
Tips for Day of the Event
If you do receive interview assignments, you are expected to arrive at
hotel to register at least 30 minutes before the interview is
scheduled to begin. Missing a scheduled appointment will reflect very badly
on you and on Wesleyan. If an emergency arises, call your Career Center
(WESLEYAN students, call 860-685-2180).
Bring extra copies of your resume, because on-the-spot interview
opportunities are often made available to students who are present at the
event if other students do not show up for their scheduled interviews.
Getting there: we recommend that you take the train into the
city as finding parking is often difficult and expensive. If you have never utilized the
New York City subway, allot
extra time to get there. Some experienced New Yorkers suggest that you even
practice the ride the day before to see how long it will take.
You must register at least a half hour before your interview time and
check in at the registration desk upon arrival. Registration will begin at
8:00 a.m. Students with 9:00 a.m.
appointments should allow extra time to get to the hotel a half hour prior
to their interview since they will be traveling during
rush hour.
Lunch will not be provided; however, there are several places to eat in the
vicinity of the facility. |
